ポートランド州立大学訪問＆オレゴン交響楽団鑑賞…そしてGPとの感動の再会！～PSU,Symphony, and a Heartfelt Reunion with GP!～

5/17(月)は音楽の学びを深めました。場所はオレゴン州の中でもトップ３に君臨するポートランド州立大学でした。
ポートランド州立大学には、音楽専攻があります。私たちが過ごした建物は全て音楽に関す施設が入っており、規模の大きさを体感しました。
私たちは世界で活躍する教授の方々の特別レッスンを受けました。日本では、決して経験することのできないレッスンを受けることができて、贅沢過ぎる時間を過ごしました。
On Monday, May 17, we deepened our understanding of music at Portland State University, one of the top three universities in Oregon.
Portland State University offers a music major, and the building we spent time in was entirely dedicated to music. We were impressed by the scale and quality of the facilities.
We had the rare opportunity to take special lessons from world-class professors. It was a truly luxurious experience—something we could never have in Japan.
午後は、少しの自由時間で夕食を済ませて、オレゴン交響楽団の演奏を楽しみました。
オレゴン交響楽団は、アメリカ西部のオーケストラとしては最も長い歴史を有しており、本拠地をアーリン・シュニッツァー・コンサートホールに置いています。その本拠地に私たちは向かいました。
コンサートホールは、歴史が古く、まさに趣があるといった雰囲気でした。日本のホールとはまた一味も二味も違った雰囲気で、その空間に身を置いているだけで心が洗われる気持ちになりました。
また、偶然にも日本人の超有名ジャズピアニスト小曽根真さんがゲストとして出演され、これもまた素晴らしい経験となりました。日本では小曽根さんのコンサートのチケットはなかなか取れません…
そして、ホテルに戻ってテレビを見てみるとこれまた偶然！我ら日本人の誇り！ドジャース大谷翔平さんの試合がち放送されていて、アメリカで日本人の活躍を2度も目の当たりにすることができて、とても刺激を受けることができました。
In the afternoon, we had a bit of free time to enjoy dinner before heading out to a performance by the Oregon Symphony.
The Oregon Symphony is the oldest orchestra in the western United States, and its home is the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. That’s where we were headed.
The concert hall had a long history and a truly classic atmosphere. It felt completely different from concert halls in Japan—just being in that space made us feel calm and refreshed.
To our surprise, world-renowned Japanese jazz pianist Makoto Ozone appeared as a guest performer. It was an unforgettable experience—especially since it’s incredibly difficult to get tickets to his concerts in Japan.
And the surprises didn’t end there. Back at the hotel, we turned on the TV and saw none other than Shohei Ohtani playing live for the Dodgers. Witnessing two proud Japanese stars shining in the U.S. in one day was incredibly inspiring.
そして、この日最大の感動は…昨年6月に慶誠高校に来てくれたグランツパス高校のみなさんとの再会。彼らもオレゴン交響楽団の鑑賞のために片道5時間かけて、ポートランドまで来ていました。その情報を聞きつけ、ホテルロビーで感動の再開。私たちもグランツパスのみんなも涙が止まりませんでした。
And the greatest moment of the day was… reuniting with the students from Grants Pass High School, who visited Keisei High School last June. They had traveled all the way to Portland, taking a five-hour trip one way—to see the Oregon Symphony.
When we heard this, we met in the hotel lobby and shared an emotional reunion. Neither we nor the Grants Pass students could stop crying.
