5/23。昨晩のコンサートの余韻が残る中、バンドルームに集まり、コンサートで感じたことを共有し合いました。

「同じステージにアメリカと日本の高校生が立っていることが素晴らしかった」「両校で同じ曲、同じ振り付けで観客を楽しませることができて良かった」「今までパフォーマンスの中で、今回浴びた歓声が一番大きく心に染みるものだった。その瞬間を一生忘れない」「私たちが共有したものは、音楽だけでなく、人と人との繋がりがどれだけ大切なものかということ」「中学生の頃演奏したことがある曲を、グランツパスの皆さんが演奏してとても興奮した」

It was great to share the stage with high school students from the U.S. and Japan, and we enjoyed performing the same songs and dances together. The cheers we got were the loudest and most memorable ever. We realized music is about connecting people. I was especially excited to hear the Grants Pass students play a song we used to play in middle school.

その後は、陸上競技場に移動をして翌日開催されるボートニックパレードの練習を行いました。

そして、夕食はグランツパスの教育長をされているティム・スウィニーさんのご自宅に、ホストファミリー全員と部員全員招待をされてBBQでした。食事をとった後は、それぞれバドミントンをしたり、プールで遊んだり、音楽に合わせて踊ったり…言語の壁を乗り越えた先に見える素敵な光景が広がっていました。

この食事会では学校理事などの方々もエプロンをつけて、日本からきた私たちのためにおもてなしをたくさんしてくださいました。日本もおもてなしの国と言われていますが、アメリカの方々もとても素敵なおもてなしをしてくださいます。

もう、何度「Thank you」と言ったか分かりません。

For dinner, all the host families and band members were invited to a BBQ at the home of Tim Sweeney, the Superintendent of Grants Pass. After eating, we played badminton, swam in the pool, and danced to music. It was a wonderful sight beyond the language barrier.

At this gathering, school board members also wore aprons and warmly welcomed us from Japan. Japan is known for its hospitality, but the Americans showed us amazing hospitality too.

I lost count of how many times I said, “Thank you.”
