グランツパス高校でのウェルカムセレモニー＆ジェットボート体験＆リハーサル ～Warm Welcome Ceremony at GP～

5/19。いよいよグランツパス高校の皆さんとの交流が本格的にスタートしました。
バスケットコートにて歓迎式典が行われました。コートに迎え入れられると、吹奏楽、オーケストラ、合唱、そして昨年交流をしたジャズバンドと演奏が続きました。教育長や校長先生、副校長先生のスピーチも頂き、グランツパス高校の皆様が時間をかけて準備をしてくださったのかが伝わりました。
また、私たちも代表部員がスライド資料を用いて、熊本と学校及び部活の紹介を英語で行いました。きちんと伝わったかは分かりませんが、それでも私たちのプレゼン後には盛大の歓声と拍手が沸き起こり、文化の違いというものを感じました。
May 19 — Our Exchange with Grants Pass High Officially Begins
Today marked the official start of our exchange with Grants Pass High School.
The welcome ceremony was held on the basketball court. As we entered the court, we were greeted by performances from the school’s wind ensemble, orchestra, choir, and even the jazz band we had met during last year’s exchange.
We also listened to speeches from the superintendent, the principal, and the vice principal. It was clear that the Grants Pass community had put a lot of time and effort into preparing this special event for us.
Our student representatives then gave a presentation in English, using slides to introduce Kumamoto, our school, and our clubs. Although we weren’t sure how well everything was understood, a big cheer and applause followed our presentation — a powerful reminder of the cultural differences and connections we were building.
お昼は、カフェテリア（学食）で昼食をとり、グランツパス高校の生徒の皆さんとジェットボードの体験に向かいました。水上を高速で走ったり、ドリフトしたり、スピンしたり…とても刺激的でしたが、大自然を感じる日本ではなかなか体験できないアクティビティでした。
For lunch, we ate in the cafeteria with the Grants Pass High students. Afterward, we headed out together for an exciting jet boat experience.
We sped across the water, drifted, and spun around—it was thrilling! It was an activity full of adrenaline and nature, something we don’t often get to try back home in Japan.
そして、一旦ホームステイ先に戻り、夕食をとり、学校に戻ってコンサートのリハーサルを行いました。
Afterwards, we returned to our host families for dinner. Later, we went back to the school for a concert rehearsal.
